A QR dog tag connects a physical tag to a web address. My Way To You allocates a unique PawID address to each paid tag and engraves its QR code on the back. A finder needs a readable code, a compatible phone and internet access to open the linked information. The tag is not GPS and does not track your dog live.
What happens when someone scans the tag?
- The finder scans the QR code using a compatible phone.
- The phone opens the address encoded in that tag.
- The finder can use the information published on the linked profile to help contact the people responsible for the dog.
The QR code is a link; it is not a location transmitter. A scan depends on the code remaining readable and the online service being available. No tag can guarantee that a lost dog will be found or returned.
QR identification versus GPS tracking
Our physical tag has no battery or electronic component. It cannot send its own location. If you need live location tracking, a QR identification tag does not provide that function. It is intended to help a person who has found your dog reach the right people.
Is the QR service free?
Scanforrescue's core service for helping a finder reach the owner is free. You pay for the personalized physical tag. Optional paid premium features may be offered in the future; they are separate from the free finder-to-owner service.
What is private, and what can a finder see?
Your account and pet profiles require sign-in. When connecting a tag, you choose whether to share your primary phone number, an alternate contact and medical notes.
Basic pet information can be visible to anyone who scans the tag: name, photo, breed, species, sex, age, colour and description. The QR link is not a password. Anyone with the link can view the information you chose to publish.
Before relying on a profile, check the link on a phone where you are not signed in. Avoid putting private contact information into a pet description or another field that is publicly visible.
Can a finder send a message or share a location?
Finders can send a message and optionally share their location. These go to the pet owner's Scan Activity inbox. Location sharing is the finder's choice; it is not automatic tracking of the dog.
Can I edit the information or retire a tag?
You can edit pet and account information, or request access, correction or deletion. Retiring a tag removes its public profile and makes the tag reusable. The physical QR link should be checked again when a tag is connected for reuse.
